September 8, 2022 — Royalty begins to look different.

Although I am a resident of the United States, I find myself captivated by the Royal family. As many other Americans do.

I vividly remember in my younger years the somewhat tradition trip the girls in my family would take to Kansas City, MO, where we would spend the afternoon learning more about Princess Diana. In saying that, I grew up around those before me who kept me in the loop on the Royals. Of course, the young innocent Kayla was quite frankly confused in the Royals, yet I found myself wanting to be one. Now, I’m not so sure.

As most know, Queen Elizabeth, the longest reigning monarch, recently passed at an elder age of 96. To put this into perspective, she became Queen at the age I am currently at; in my early-to-mid twenties. I can’t imagine what emotions she must have felt when she became Queen. Heck, I don’t even know what I am eating for supper once I am done writing this article!

Did she feel prepared? Was she in a place in her life to leave “normalcy” behind? What about the future of the monarchy? If it were me, I would simply answer these questions somewhere between “no” and “idk.”

However, we must continue to move forward with the new reigning monarchy, her son, His Majesty Prince Charles. I will save the personal opinions on Charles for another time, but nonetheless, this is the current position of the Commonwealth.

My thoughts on this change in the countries of rule and reign of the Royals may remain grounded in curiosity. Yet, I would be fooling myself if I did not admit that I believe these countries are left feeling confused and somewhat stuck between remembrance and excitement for the future.

So, where do the Royals and the Commonwealth go from here? And of course, will Queen Elizabeth’s corgi’s be ok?
