📍Coffee Shops

Why do I always end up at a coffee shop?

I was born in 1998, some would say I am a Gen Z individual. So naturally I find enjoyment in things such as new technology, staying up-to-date on Hollywood drama, connection through social media, and the widely popular trend: coffee shops.

As I ironically enough found myself in a coffee shop just this morning, I found it interesting how most, if not all, of the coffee drinkers in the shop were my age or somewhat close. Then I got to reflecting on my college years and how I found myself in the coffee shop studying far more than the traditional library.

Now that I am out of college, I still cannot seem to escape the money-draining hobby and trend. Whether it means running inside to grab my daily dose, meeting a friend for a catch-up, or even a curbside order (thanks Covid), it seems almost too convenient that there are now more coffee shops than liquor stores. Don’t hold me to that statistic; I just have a hunch that there is some truth to that.

So, why? Why do I find myself wanting to spend more time, and in turn more money, sitting at a coffee shop and using their Wi-Fi, rather than putting my own Wi-Fi to use? Why do I feel like it makes more sense to go spend sometimes over $5 on an average latte when I’m sure I can make it myself?

I’m no scientist, but my conclusions seem to be showing the generational gap is evident in coffee shops. No shade to those before Gen Z, but we all know some would rather pour a nice pot of ground coffee, whereas others may crave a crafted cup of Joe.

Has anyone else noticed this difference?!

All this to say, I still plan to go to my usual coffee shop tomorrow. But this time I may try to see coffee shops through the lens of my Grammy and Poppy, for example, and try a traditional dark roast.
